The Group Teams must consist of at least 3 and at most 5 members. The top 3 finishing times will count towards the team ranking. During registration will you have the option to create a Team Name or search for a Team Name. And the person creating the Team has the option to password protect it.
USAT WETSUIT RULES
USAT rules state that competitors may wear wetsuits if the water temperature is 78 degrees or lower.
USAT rules also state that if the water temperature is between 78.1 - 83.9 degrees, competitors may wear wetsuits but will not be eligible for awards.
If the water temperature is 84 degrees or above, participants may not wear wetsuits.
LAKE TAWAKONI'S CURRENT (LIVE) WATER TEMPERATURE IS
Where is Lake Tawakoni? Surprisingly, it's the same distance from Dallas as Lake Ray Roberts. Instead of heading north out of town towards Denton, you head east out of town towards Terrell to find Lake Tawakoni State Park. The lake is 35 minutes east of Rockwall, 50 miles from Dallas, and a straight shoot out on 80 to Wills Point. About 9 miles north of Wills Point on Lake Drive / FM 47 you'll find the State Park. There will be Lake Tawakoni signs, as well as RACE signs to show you the way.
DRIVING DIRECTIONS
FROM DALLAS: Take Highway 80 east through Terrell to Wills Point. Be sure not to miss the 80 exit to Terrell. If you miss the exit it will take you 10 miles out of the way. Once you enter Wills Point, turn left on North 4th Street and head north to Lake Drive / FM 47. Turn right onto Lake Drive / FM 47 and proceed north to FM 2475. Look for Race Signs - Turn left onto FM 2475 and head north until you reach Lake Tawakoni State Park. You will also see signs for Lake Tawakoni State Park along the way.
FROM INTERSTATE 20: Take State Highway 20 to FM 47 north through Wills Point to FM 2475. Turn left onto FM 2475 and head north until you reach Lake Tawakoni State Park. There are also signs for Lake Tawakoni State Park along the way.
SWIM COURSE: The Sprint and the Olympic swim legs both have a beach entrance, and take place in beautiful Lake Tawakoni. Both courses run counter-clockwise and take racers around a small peninsula. The Olympic swim leg shares the same course as the Sprint, however it takes racers farther into the lake for a larger loop to complete 1500 meters. Swimmers exit the water via a boat ramp, which takes them directly into the transition area, so very little running is involved. MAP
BIKE COURSE: This 24.8 mile out and back course is mostly flat with very few intersections and only two turns. The Sprint and the Olympic bike legs share the same distance - the same course. That's Right! MAP
RUN COURSE: The Sprint and the Olympic run legs mostly share the same course. The run course takes you out of the transition area and down a short path to a trail head. This short 1/4 mile trail run weaves through trees, before it takes you back to pavement. Once you hit the road, the course quickly takes you out of the park and it becomes an out and back with a couple of rolling hills. Back in the park, it is a fast and straight path to the finish line. The Olympic run course takes you just past the Sprint turn-around and then comes back into the park to Trail Head where Olympic racers head out again for a partial loop.
MAP
TRANSITION AREA: The transition area is conveniently close to the swim exit. As soon as racers leave the water, they are only steps from the timing unit and then head directly into the transition area. This is a large transition area, so there will be plenty of room to rack your bike and find your way in and out. MAP
For those outdoor enthusiasts, we are offering camping sites and RV Hook-Ups Saturday night to all of our Race Participants and their Guest for a $25 processing fee.
